If you're making the scarf you will need a total of 12 squares, so you will need 1 of each square. If you're making the afghan you will need a total of 48 squares, so you will need 4 of each square. But if some of the squares don't appeal to you, you can substitute that square for another that you do love. The choice is really up to you!

Croco-Square

You will need:
Yarn: worsted weight
Colors: I used 3 colors
Hook: size “H” or 5.0mm
Stitches Key:
sl st – slip stitch st – stitch
ch – chain sp – space
dc – double crochet Rnd – round
Ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook to form a ring
Rnd 1: ch 3 (counts as 1
dc) 2 dc in ring, (ch 3, 3 dc in ring) 3 times, ch 3, join with a sl st in top
of starting ch 3.
Rnd 2: ch 4 (counts as dc
and ch1), 3 dc in next ch 3 sp, ch 3 and 3 dc in same ch 3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc, ch
3, 3 dc in next ch 3 sp) 2 times, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch sp. Join
with sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch 4.
Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as dc),
2 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch 3 sp, (ch 1, 3 dc in next
ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch 3 sp) 3 times, ch 1, join with sl
st in top of starting ch 3.
Rnd 4: ch 4 (counts as dc
and ch 1), 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in next ch 3 sp, (ch
1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch 1 sp, ch 1 (3 dc, ch 3, 3 dc) in
next ch 3 sp) 3 times, ch 1, 2 dc in next ch 1 sp, join with sl st in 3rd
ch of starting ch 4.
Rnd 5: ch 3 (counts as dc), (dc
in next ch sp, dc in next 3 st) 2 times (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch 3 sp.
(dc in each st and ch sp to next corner, (2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in corner ch 3 sp)
3 times, dc in next 3 st, dc in next ch sp, dc in next 2 st. Join with a sl st
to top of starting ch 3. Fasten off.
Rnd 6: This round will be
like the crocodile stitch. In any corner of round 4, sl st with color B
(pink) around post of 3rd dc
ch 1 then 4dc
down around the dc post of rnd 4, ch 1, 5dc up
around the post of the next dc of rnd 4
ch 1,*go to the 3rd dc of next 3 dc and
5dc down post of dc
ch 1, 5dc up the next dc
post (1st of the next 3 dc of rnd 4) ch 1, go
to the 3rd dc of next 3 dc and 5dc down dc post ch 1, 5dc up the next dc post (1st of the next 3 dc) ch 1,*
Repeat from *-* 3 times, go to the 3rd dc of next 3
dc and 5dc down post of dc ch 1, 5dc up the
next dc post (1st of the next 3 dc of rnd 4) ch1, sl st last ch 1 in the
starting ch 1. You should have a total of 8 scales.
Fasten off.
Rnd 7: This round will also
be like the crocodile stitch. In any corner of round 2 sl st with White around post of 3rd dc or first
3 dc
ch 1 then 4dc down the dc post, ch 1, 5dc up the first dc post
of next 3 dc in corner
ch 1, *5dc down the 3rd
dc post of next 3 dc’s ch 1
5dc up the first
dc post of next 3 dc ch 1* Repeat *-* 3 times,
sl st last ch 1 in the starting ch 1. You should have a total of 4 scales.
Fasten off.
