CAL Square 8

Welcome back once again! We are here for the release of our eighth square for this CAL! We will be releasing one square every Monday at 2:00 pm central time!

If you're making the scarf you will need a total of 12 squares, so you will need 1 of each square. If you're making the afghan you will need a total of 48 squares, so you will need 4 of each square. But if some of the squares don't appeal to you, you can substitute that square for another that you do love. The choice is really up to you!

Treasure Time

You will need:
Yarn: worsted weight 
Hook: size “H” or 5.0mm

Stitches Key:
sl st – slip stitch                              st – stitch
ch – chain                                       fpsc – front post single crochet
sc – single crochet                         sp - space
dc – double crochet                       rnd – round
hdc – half double crochet
tr – treble/triple crochet                           

ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook



















Rnd 1: ch 3 (counts as dc), 11dc around, sl st in top of ch 3

Rnd 2: ch 3 (counts as dc), 1dc in same st as starting ch. 2dc in each dc of last rnd, sl st in top of ch 3 (24 total dc)



















Rnd 3: ch 2 (counts as hdc), hdc in first st, *dc in next st, (tr, ch 3, tr) in next st (corner made), dc in next st, hdc in next 3 st*, repeat from * to * 3 times, dc in next st, (tr, ch 3, tr) in next st, dc in next st, hdc in next st, join with sl st to top of starting ch 2.


Rnd 4: ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in next 3 st, *(2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in corner ch 3 sp, dc in next 7 st to corner, repeat from * 3 times. (2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) all in corner ch 3 sp, dc in next 3 st, join with sl st to top of starting ch 3.



Rnd 5: ch 1, sc in same joining st, *sc in each st to corner, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) all in corner ch 3 sp. Repeat around, sc in each st to starting ch 1, join with sl st to top of starting sc.

Rnd 6: ch 2 (does not count as st), dc in each st to corner, *(dc, ch 3, dc) all in corner ch 2 sp, dc in next 7 st, tr in next st of rnd 4, dc in next 7 st. Repeat from * 3 times, (dc, ch 3, dc) all in corner ch 2 sp, dc in next 7 st, tr in next st of rnd 4, join with sl st to top of first dc.


Rnd 7: ch 1, sc in each st to corner, (2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc) all in corner ch 3 sp. Repeat around, sc in each st to ch 1, join with sl st to top of starting ch 1.


Fasten off.

Center “X”: Sl st join to the 1st tr in the corner of rnd 3, ch 3 (working away from center of motif) *sl st in the ch sp of rnd 3,between the 2nd and 3rd dc of corner of rnd 4, ch 3 (working towards center of motif), fpsc to 2nd tr in corner of rnd 3, ch 2, fpsc to dc in rnd 2, ch 2, fpsc to dc of rnd 1, ch 2 (working away from center of motif) fpsc to dc of rnd 2 (working towards next corner), ch 2, fpsc to 1st tr of corner of rnd 3, ch 3*, repeat from * to * 3 times. sl st in the ch sp of rnd 3, between the 2nd and 3rd dc of corner of rnd 4, ch 3 (working towards center of motif), fpsc to 2nd tr in corner of rnd 3, ch 2, fpsc to dc in rnd 2, ch 2, fpsc to dc of rnd 1, ch 2 (working away from center of motif) fpsc to dc of rnd 2 (working towards next corner), ch 2, sl st join to starting sl st.












Fasten off.
