CAL Square 5

Welcome back! We are here for the release of our fifth square for this CAL! We will be releasing one square every Monday at 2:00 pm central time!

If you're making the scarf you will need a total of 12 squares, so you will need 1 of each square. If you're making the afghan you will need a total of 48 squares, so you will need 4 of each square. But if some of the squares don't appeal to you, you can substitute that square for another that you do love. The choice is really up to you!

Chains in space

You will need:
Yarn: worsted weight
Hook: size “H” or 5.0mm

Stitches Key:
sl st – slip stitch                              st – stitch
ch – chain                                       sk – skip
sc – single crochet                         sp - space
hdc – half double crochet               rnd – round
dc – double crochet
tr – treble/triple crochet                           

Ch 5, sl st in 5th ch from hook forming a circle



















Rnd 1: ch 3 (counts as dc), 2dc, *ch 3, 3dc in circle made, repeat from * 3 times, ch 3, sl st to top of starting ch 3.



















Rnd 2: ch 4 (counts as dc, ch 1), *(3dc, ch 3, 3dc) in ch 3 sp, ch 1, repeat from * 3 times. (3 dc, ch 3, 2 dc) in next ch 3 sp. Join with sl st in 3rd ch of starting ch 4.

Rnd 3: ch 3 (counts as dc), 2dc in ch 1 sp, ch 1, *(3dc, ch 3, 3dc) in corner ch 3 sp, ch 1, 3 dc in ch 1 sp, ch 1. Repeat from * 3 times. (3dc, ch 3, 3dc) in corner ch 3 sp, ch 1, sl st to top of starting ch 3.



















Rnd 4: ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st and ch 1 sp to corner, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in corner ch 3 sp. Repeat around, dc in each st and ch to starting ch, join with sl st to top of starting ch 3.



















Rnd 5: ch 3 (counts as dc), dc in each st to corner, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in corner ch 3 sp, *(dc in next st, ch 1, sk next st) 7 times, dc in next st, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in corner ch 3 sp*. Dc in each st to corner, (2dc, ch 3, 2dc) in corner ch 3 sp. Repeat from * to *, dc in each st to starting ch, sl st to top of starting ch 3. Fasten off.
















Rnd 6: Join color B with sl st around the post of the first dc after the corner ch 3 of rnd 5,
















*ch 12, sc around post of 2nd dc of 1st rnd,









ch 12, sc around post of last dc before corner of rnd 5, ch 1, sc around post of next dc in rnd 5.
















Repeat from * 3 times. Ch 12, sc around post of 2nd dc of 1st rnd, ch 12, sc around post of last dc before corner of rnd 5, ch 1, sl st to starting sl st. Fasten off.

Rnd 7: Sl st around post of 2nd dc of 3dc in center set of 3dc in rnd 3,
















(ch 8, sc around post of 2nd dc of 3dc in center set of 3dc in rnd 3) 3 times, ch 8, sl st to beginning sl st. Fasten off.
