If you're making the scarf you will need a total of 12 squares, so you will need 1 of each square. If you're making the afghan you will need a total of 48 squares, so you will need 4 of each square. But if some of the squares don't appeal to you, you can substitute that square for another that you do love. The choice is really up to you!

The fourth of our squares is called 'My EKG' written by Valley Weavers. You can find the pattern with a picture tutorial here on this page, or you can download a printer friendly version here.

If you have any questions regarding the pattern or the CAL in general, please post to the facebook group as you will receive the quickest response time from there. Thank you for joining us this week, look forward to seeing your progress in our facebook group and in seeing you again next week! Happy hooking!

My EKG
by Valley Weavers

You will need:
Yarn: worsted weight. I used Red Heart Love in 3 colors for definition.
I used color “A” for rounds 1-4, color “B” for rounds 5-7, and color “C” for round 8.
Hook: size “H”
Square Size:  approximately 6 inches

Special stitch used: Spike Stitch
A spike stitch is when you insert your hook into the row stated, yarn over and bring the loop to the top of the row you are working on, and complete you sc. Make sure you keep the “spiked” stitch the same height as the ones already in your row.

Make sure when you are working row 5 (spike st row) that you work the 2 sc that come after the 3 corner spikes in the right place. You may need to mark the st that comes right after the 3 corner spikes so you don’t miss it when you work the next 2 stitches.

Also, the ch 1 at the beginning of the rows is NOT part of your stitch count and you don’t work into it at the end of the rows.

Begin with a “magic loop” (you tube has excellent videos on this very quick but wonderful way to work in the round) or any other method you use to form a ring to work your stitches into.

Rnd 1 Ch 3 (counts as dc), 15 dc in ring, join with slip st to top of ch-3. (16 dc)

Rnd 2 Ch 1, 3 sc in first stitch, sc in next 3 dc, *3 sc in next dc, sc in next 3 dc; repeat from * two more times, join with slip st to first sc.  (24 sc)

Rnd 3  Ch 1 *sc in next sc, 3 sc in corner sc, sc in next 4 sc; repeat from * three more times, join with slip st to first sc. (32 sc)

Rnd 4  Ch1, sc in same st as ch1, *sc in next st, 3 sc in corner sc, sc in next 6 sc; repeat from * around, join with slip st to first sc. Fasten off. (40 sc)

Join new color for round 5 in round 4 at the slip stitch.
Rnd 5  Ch 1, *Spike sc in row below next sc, sc in next 2 sc,

3 Spike sc in next stitch two rows below,

sc in next 2 sc, Spike sc in row below next sc, Spike sc two rows below next sc, Spike sc three rows below next sc, Spike sc two rows below next sc;

repeat from * three more times, join with slip st to first Spike sc. (48 stitches)

Rnd 6  Ch 1, *sc in the next 4 sc, 3 sc in corner sc, sc in next 7 sc; repeat from * around, join with slip st to first sc. (56 sc)

Rnd 7  Ch 1, *sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc, ch 2, 2 sc in corner sc, sc in next 8 sc; repeat from * around, join to first sc. Fasten off. (76st)

Join new color for round 8 with a standing sc in any corner sc. (standing sc counts as first sc)

Rnd 8  ch 2, 1 sc in the same corner stitch as standing sc (or sc join of your choice).   *Sc in the next 16 stitches, 1 sc, ch2, 1 sc in the corner sc; repeat from * around, join to the first sc with a slip st. Fasten off. (84 st)

If your square is a bit wavy on the edges, you can lightly steam it or block it.
If you do not have 6 inches, you can crochet another round.
